For a customer in Glienicke/Nordbahn, right on the northern edge of Berlin, we built and installed two tiered raised beds. The beds are made of solid softwood posts, stacked layer by layer in log-cabin style with overlapping corner joints – no visible hardware, just a sturdy, load-bearing structure.
To make the wood last, we protected it twice over: a Koranol stain on the outside shields it from the weather, and a liner on the inside keeps the timber permanently separated from the damp soil.
The larger bed runs along the garden wall in two tiers; the second is a simple rectangle. One year on, everything is in full use: tomatoes, peppers, kohlrabi, zucchini, beans and herbs – planted and tended by the customer.
